Fat Tuesday

Colors of Mardi Gras. What do they mean to YOU?

Advertisements

Did you know that “Mardi Gras” means “fat tuesday”ย in french? Mardi Gras is also the last day of Shrovetide… a three day celebration of merrymaking associated with carnival. On Shrove Tuesday some reflect on wrongs and things to repent or of things to make ammends for. Then comes Ash Wednesday….Lent.

The colors of mardi gras are gold, emerald green, and royal purple. These colors used to have specific meanings and not just a representation of the “holiday”. Gold stood for Power. The Sparkling Emerald Green stood for Faith. Royal Purple stood for Justice. Beads of each color were given to those who represented the trait that color symbolized.

Which color would represent You? Which color would You like to represent You? (They are not always the same. Lucky YOU if they are!)

Well. . . Here is hoping you have a wonderful Mardi Gras.ย Laissez le bon temps rouler!

Portraits and Photography

Portrait: defined by webster’s dictionary as:

  • “a painting, drawing, or photograph of a person that usually only includes the person’s head and shoulders”

  • “a detailed description of something or someone”

  • “a way of printing a page so that the shorter sides are on the top and bottom and the longer sides are on the left and right”

Portrait: as most people think of it:

  • a photo of one person taken by a professional photographer meant to be displayed either at home, at work, or on social media (or all of the above–depending on the individual).

Portrait: as I see it as a photographer:

  • a depiction of a person as they are in today’s present state or as they wish to be seen.

What do I mean by that (“as they wish to be seen”)?

  • people have many talents. Some are happy with a self portrait.
  • Others wish to be better photographed to catch a more flattering view of themselves than a selfie on a smart phone.
  • Others wish to showcase a talent or career or activity that they have a passion for…something that gives their life meaning. Some hear the word “portrait” and think of a Family Session. Others think of the old time portraits that were painted and hung on a castle wall…(such as depictions of Eleanor of Aquitaine, King Richard the Lionheart, the Tzars of Russia, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa)…

For those that wish to be showcased in the talent or career or activity that gives their life meaning (be that motherhood, fatherhood, swimming, golf, baseball, cosplay, re-enactments, hockey, ice skating, skate boarding, botany, horticulturist, executive, non-profit leader, photographer, etc) it represents a challenge to represent that person in their passion. That is the portrait I love to help create. Portraits are a team effort for without the client there to share their passion, their career, their life, I have no canvas on which to create a portrait….

Such a creation should be shared. Most of us share EVERYTHING on social media. I love social media. It is a great way to share life and passion…especially with those you don’t see every day. However, it is not the ultimate goal. The goal of a photographer when wik_elizabeth-i_rainbow-portraitcreating a portrait is to help you create something that you can personally share with all who enter your home. Not just those who are on social media. To personally share art with those that matter, Portraits are hung in your home to show your Passion, your love for life, to showcase YOU, Your FAMILY, to show what matters to YOU.

For ย this reason, cd’s are given with purchases of photographs purchased. Not given as a collection of an entire session to be lost in cyberspace. Art is not digitally stored on a device to get shoved away in a drawer or a box or a closet. Art and Love are meant to be shared… to be part of your home. So please understand when a photographer says “I don’t offer cd’s”…what they are truly saying to you is I want you to have something special for your home that shows the love you have for your journey through the adventure we call LIFE. You deserve something unique and something to display. Not something to hide on a device in a drawer or closet or box in that closet….because YOU are special.

More examples of past Art/Portraits from the past…which demonstrate art, presence, passion, and define WHO they were and HOW we see them….

Welcome 2016

Check out our year in review of 2015.

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2016…Good-bye to 2015. With photos, there really isn’t a “good-bye.” Photos help you remember and share all those FUN times as many times as you wish to relive the moment (or share it with as many friends and family members as possible).

Let me share with you the best memories from Misha’s Photography & Restoration of 2015. This includes events, portraits, etc. I want to say Thank You to all who purchased event photos, to all those wonderful people who had portraits done, and to those who revisit us every year for MORE photographic adventures.

Best of 2015-MPR-RHFD

Rolling Hills Fire Department (RHFD) is a wonderful group of men and women who devote A LOT of time to their community. It is a great opportunity to help them by photographing some of their community events since 2012. Thank You RHFD for all that YOU DO! ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is a look at some of the Orchestra concerts for Broken Arrow High School. This includes Freshman Academy. I try to shoot at least one photo of every teen on stage. The display here is just the panoramic view of the entire stage area for each orchestra category.

This is a display of some of the visitors at Oklahoma Renaissance Festival from May of 2015. These are NOT the Castle’s “best of” choices. These are the best choices within Misha’s Photograph & Restoration. Visiting the Castle of Muskogee each season has been very enjoyable. I adore people and photography. This community event is a great time to have fun with a camera and capture a variety of adventures.

Best of 2015-MPR-OKRF Pirates

Best of Pirates. This display is mostly Acts that you will see at the Castle. Pictured above are members of “the Jolly Rogers” and members of “the Musical Blades” with a couple of extras peeking in for a visit. For more information on these pirate groups, check them out on Facebook:ย The Jolly Rogers and Musical Blades.

Best of 2015-MPR-OKRF Comedy

Angus is an all time favorite. OKRF would not be OKRF without this wonderful Scotsman stopping visitors and passers by through Angus Land. The Brothers Dimm has always been a favored stop on Mother’s Day and what would fair be without a Tribal Circus and the Jester Rejects? These are by no means the only comedies available at OKRF. I did not make as many shows as planned so please, check it out this coming May in 2016 and Maybe I’ll see you there (or here in next year’s “best of” post).

Best of 2015-MPR-OKRF

Here’s is one more OKRF display…wonderful things to see at the Castle: The Mermaid Grotto, the Memorial Day Parade (a tribute to Veterans); The Joust; Dancing; and much, much more!

Thirteen Days of Halloween: FIVE

This session was a lot of fun. Children don’t often have a long attention span before they are school age and sometimes this discourages people to take up projects like this one. Pets tend to have even less of an attention span…depending on the breed and personality. ย This young lady is a ball of energy and “Toto” was too. We did have a LOT of fun shooting and my little model loved getting dressed up to go out and play. ๐Ÿ˜€ Meet “Dorothy and Toto…her little dog too”.

Smash Cake Party!

Smash Cake Sessions are GREAT FUN for Everyone!

Young Mister Kolton had a great session on Sunday. He celebrated his first year which is normally what a smash cake session is for. Why do we call it “smash cake”?…If your a Marvel fan as both my children are, you have heard the quote “HULK SMASH!”

When you set a one year old in front of a beautiful work of art (the cake)…you never know what to expect…but the cake (artwork) usually ends up in a crumbled smashed up mess of FUN! When both of my children turned one, we gave them their own cake and had a separate cake for the guests. This has been a tradition in my family for at least three generations. Now you can enjoy this tradition on camera with delightful photos and a professional photographer to capture the memories you will have fun sharing for a lifetime.

Cake SMASH! :D

With a “Cake Smash Session” your child gets to enjoy a treat and some fun time and so do you. The celebration of having a one year old is something grand that each family member should enjoy for a lifetime…let’s book your session today!

Happy 1st Birthday Kolton!

Thank you for such an awesome, fun time! ๐Ÿ˜€

Country Girl USA

This past weekend I had the opportunity to do a shoot with a young lady who is looking to build a portfolio as an aspiring model. She is great to work with and very “girl next door” down to earth.
Fellow photographer Roger Toliver ย and I had a wonderful time at a great location in Bixby, OK.

On location shoots are great. They are like a mini adventure for the “model(s)” and the photographer(s). What’s even better is that on location offers the use of “props” that you don’t have to tote around and you could go ANYWHERE! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love on location. The same location varies with each person or group you shoot as personalities do come out and do make a difference. โค

Every day is a journey through the adventure of life….and we should always make the most of the adventure! Wouldn’t want to miss anything ๐Ÿ™‚

So…who’s up for a shoot? Contact me!

You can locate me on Facebook, Twitter, my Website, and you can see galleries on both my website and facebook pages. Please visit and let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ˜€

Have a wonderful week! …til next time!

Haunting sights of Nature

I love a walk in the Nature Park in any season….but Autumn is my favorite season. As the season’s of life have past and changed, so have I. As a child, my favorite season was summer. I loved the adventure, not having to attend school, and the water! Swimming was life! Now if I can walk outside and enjoy nature in all its wonderous array of wardrobe…(colors)… I am content to enjoy nature.

a haunting sight in the park

There are things to see everywhere…though it seems as though few see them. I have a vivid imagination and sometimes one small (ish) thing in nature sparks an entire imaginary scene or scenario in the eye of the mind.

This tree and the month of October with All Hallow’s Eve just around the corner reminded me of all the pictures of haunted houses and bare spooky trees pictured in children’s story books. What would you see on an Autumn nature walk?

Share here in the comments section or post it on our facebook page! ๐Ÿ™‚ ย Happy Haunting season!
