This session was a lot of fun. Children don’t often have a long attention span before they are school age and sometimes this discourages people to take up projects like this one. Pets tend to have even less of an attention span…depending on the breed and personality. This young lady is a ball of energy and “Toto” was too. We did have a LOT of fun shooting and my little model loved getting dressed up to go out and play. 😀 Meet “Dorothy and Toto…her little dog too”.
Pet Portraits are fun and can show such unexpected adventure. That adventure can be seen in your own backyard like Penny’s portrait or on location like Suzie’s portrait! It’s great to see your pet happy and having fun no matter where you are. During the fall, some even have a great time with dressing up their pet for trick or treat night! Does YOUR pet have a costume this year? What are you waiting for?? Let’s get together and have some FUN!
Most teens are into horror movies, suspense thrillers, and the walking dead (zombies). Here’s a portrait of a crime scene or more to the point our project’s murder victim. The girls had great fun thinking this one up and getting the make-up done.
Back-To-School season is here. Everyone has passed that very busy “first day” and all the photos and shopping trips. Now you can relax and look forward to open house night and fall school photos.
Back to school also begins the holiday season activities for fall. The weather is cooling off and everyone is getting excited to see the heatwave that hits us during Oklahoma Summers pass by to be dreamed back up during the freezing spells that winter brings. But I am getting too far ahead.
Two things to consider right now:
Fall Photos: These come in two varieties.
The first is that family portrait everyone sends out with (or for) the Christmas Card season. Holiday portraits take time and energy to put together for a lot of families because this season is so busy. Back to school is over and then comes PTA; then Halloween planning; thanksgiving baking and Christmas cards (or holiday cards depending on your celebration/event); and then the yuletide shopping.
The second is Senior Portraits. Senior Portraits can be done at any point in the school year but it is best to book them early. If you want Fall photos, you need to keep in mind the time change and when the daylight hours start getting shorter. morning and evening light are best if you are looking for an outdoor shoot. With the Oklahoma weather, we all know that the cold season can start anytime around mid October (or can wait until mid December)…IF you want an indoor, on-location shoot then the weather won’t really make a difference with regards to photos…however travel is still a consideration. Plan ahead and book early. Be sure to include the school activities you are involved in this year. 🙂
Themed Photos: Why mention themed photos? Fall means cooler weather. Cooler weather means more outdoor, on-location comfort for those costumes that require a lot of layers and/or make-up. Oklahoma summer heatwaves can cause discomfort or at the least a bit of inconvenience when your theme requires layers of fur, armor, make-up, etc. Though you don’t want to wait for the winter months to set in either unless of course you require that white winter wonderland 🙂 though we can work on that during post process or during scene set-ups too.We would love to get together with YOU this Back to school season to have some photo-FUN. Give us a shout! You can find us on Facebook, online, or you can shoot us an email or text message. Come find us and book YOUR session TODAY!
Last week’s blog talked about what a portrait is and the “origin” (so to speak) of that definition. You may have visited my website and wondered “What is a themed session” so I wish to clarify that here.
Theme: the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person’s thoughts, or an exhibition; a topic. “the theme of the sermon was reverence“
Theme (as defined by Webster’s Dictionary): 1. the main subject that is being discussed or described in a piece of writing, a movie, etc; 2. a particular subject or issue that is discussed often or repeatedly; 3. the particular subject or idea on which the style of something (such as a party or room) is based;
Let’s start with a subject. Some favorites today are “steampunk”, “ren-fair”, “Disney Princess”, “Star Wars”, “Road Warrior”, ….you can get as general or specific as you want. That is part of the confusion (in my opinion) which I hope to clear up with this post.
Take “disney princess” for instance. What child hasn’t grown up with a favorite Disney character? We all have our favorites. My children both have had different favorites throughout the years…and all of my nieces and nephews too. I even have my own personal history of favorites. 🙂 Which one is YOURS?
Maybe you need a little more information on themes to get the bigger picture. Let me show you by providing a few examples we can all usually relate to.
Example one: a luau with characters such as lilo, stitch, Elvis, hula dancers, surfers…all of these would be a fun group session with Hawaiian theme.
Example two: the tea party. Can you see where this one is going? A tea party could be a traditional tea party with tea and cakes OR you could incorporate a Mad Hatter, a white rabbit, Alice in her blue and white version by Disney, a “dark alice”, (or another of your own creation).
Example three: Cosplay or ComicCon (yes this is very general). Take any cosplay character or comicCon character you would find at a cosplay or Comic Convention and build on it. This can include DC (or Marvel) Heroes, star wars, anime and other such characters.
Other examples: Decades: 1980’s, 1970’s, 1960’s (pick your favorite era).
No matter what your theme choice. Be sure to provide your photographer with plenty of background information such as: Character; Setting; is it just you or does this session require a group of people? Is this a new thing or a passion since your childhood days? Please feel free to explain something new. 🙂 There is so much creativity out there and so many possibilities to have fun with that no one can keep track of everything. That’s another beauty of themed sessions. Each will be unique to the individual and the photographer. Life is an adventure. Photos should be fun.
There are many themed activities today. Laser tag sessions have themes. Just look at a few options in the Tulsa area. Family entertainment venues have themes. It’s today’s “thing”. So grab that train and let’s take an adventure trip to your favorite destination!
Think a “theme session” is a wonderful idea but don’t have any idea how to put one together? or what theme to choose?…Contact us. We’d be happy to walk you through it.
Out West….in the lovely mountainous state of Wyoming.
I spent the last week in June in the mountains. That is such beautiful country. I could spend an entire summer there and not get bored….not to mention NOT see everything there.
Jackson Hole, WY is a lovely vacation spot for active families in the summer or the winter! 😀
They have horseback riding, river rafting, trail hikes, nature (bison, deer, elk, birds, etc), biking, mountains, rivers, and lakes as big as you please!
All this is found just south of the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park….and from Lamar to Jackson on the highway, there is a scenic loop where you can see wild horses!
Beautiful country!…. It’s as close to nature without all the city life as I have seen in a while…sometimes I wish more of our cities saw the benefit of preserving nature at its most wondrous. Manicured lawns and everything all neat and tidy has its place and creates order and a wonder all its own. Nature however orderly is also chaotic and holds a majesty we tend to overlook due to the currents of life washing away the hours faster than we care to realize.
Wyoming in June of 2015 was a wondrously fantastic adventure that I would encourage anyone to take on at least once. 😀
Whether it’s nature, history, or adventure you seek, Wyoming is awesome! My visit was in summer but I have heard wondrous tales of skiing and the resorts they have available in winter. Summer is a great season for me…but I am interested in a Wyoming Wonderland too… Maybe there is another trip waiting for me in the future…
I hope there is one for you! I hope you have someone wonderful to share it with as well…for life is more when you share it.
Share your adventures!…where have you been lately? Let us know when YOU like us on facebook, follow us on twitter, and check back for more photo blog posts HERE! Thanks for reading.
How did YOU spend Mother’s Day? It has become almost a tradition for my Mother and my Daughter to spend the day at OKRF on Mother’s Day. Three generations together at Fair. A great time enjoyed by all.
Mother’s Day at the Castle has it’s favorites….there are always “must see” acts. While we enjoy OKRF, we do have our favorites. The Jolly Rogers, The Brothers Dimm (also known as the Mud Men), Karma Dogma Show, and usually the birds of Prey show…however we missed that one. Royal Gauntlet used to do the show and now it is Knight Wing. We visited the Italian quarter and saw Tribal Circus. We tried Wulgamut but the echo inside the cave made it too loud to enjoy so we weren’t able to stay long. This doesn’t affect everyone and they are worth the listen…if the cave gets to you then catch them at pub-sing at the crown inn towards the end of the day.
If you got the chance to spend the day with your Mom…then you had a very special day indeed. IF you did not, don’t think you missed out. Make a date and spend the day with her any day! Mother’s day can be any day regardless of your calendar. Mothers are special and any day is a great day to spend with MOM. ❤
Happy Mother’s Day to ALL the Moms out there…and God Bless each and every one of YOU!
Warm weather is almost here and schedules are getting busier by the minute.
I want to take a moment and say Thank You to some really important people. We all have volunteers in our community. Most Home Owners’ Associations (HOAs) are made up of volunteers. Some Fire and Rescue teams are made up of volunteers. Though our Police, Fire, and Military are not volunteers, their pay is not nearly equal to the time and efforts some give on a daily basis.
I had the privilege to give back to my community this weekend and will again next weekend. I write this not to communicate my efforts but those whom I get the opportunity to photograph in their efforts. This is my way of saying “Thank You” to those who volunteer and give more than most realize. Sometimes we all take for granted those things which are right in front of us…(myself included) and sometimes a thank you can make the hours, days, months of volunteer time worth every second. 🙂
For those of you reading this, if you have time, support your local volunteers and if you are around Catoosa on Saturday, April 4th, 2015–come and enjoy the Easter Egg Hunt that Rolling Hills Fire Department is hosting from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm.
Young Mister Kolton had a great session on Sunday. He celebrated his first year which is normally what a smash cake session is for. Why do we call it “smash cake”?…If your a Marvel fan as both my children are, you have heard the quote “HULK SMASH!”
When you set a one year old in front of a beautiful work of art (the cake)…you never know what to expect…but the cake (artwork) usually ends up in a crumbled smashed up mess of FUN! When both of my children turned one, we gave them their own cake and had a separate cake for the guests. This has been a tradition in my family for at least three generations. Now you can enjoy this tradition on camera with delightful photos and a professional photographer to capture the memories you will have fun sharing for a lifetime.
With a “Cake Smash Session” your child gets to enjoy a treat and some fun time and so do you. The celebration of having a one year old is something grand that each family member should enjoy for a lifetime…let’s book your session today!
I love a walk in the Nature Park in any season….but Autumn is my favorite season. As the season’s of life have past and changed, so have I. As a child, my favorite season was summer. I loved the adventure, not having to attend school, and the water! Swimming was life! Now if I can walk outside and enjoy nature in all its wonderous array of wardrobe…(colors)… I am content to enjoy nature.
There are things to see everywhere…though it seems as though few see them. I have a vivid imagination and sometimes one small (ish) thing in nature sparks an entire imaginary scene or scenario in the eye of the mind.
This tree and the month of October with All Hallow’s Eve just around the corner reminded me of all the pictures of haunted houses and bare spooky trees pictured in children’s story books. What would you see on an Autumn nature walk?
Share here in the comments section or post it on our facebook page! 🙂 Happy Haunting season!
No I don’t mean High School is forever…but the one thing that seems to be forever, is that Senior Picture that sums up your High School life. This is the one portrait that is sure to be how you, as a senior in high school, are remembered. Why do I say that?
Most Seniors purchase a yearbook, a class ring, and graduation memorabilia. The ONE YEARBOOK sure to be searched through again and again and to show up at every reunion to come is the Senior Yearbook.
Why is this important? Your senior year is the beginning of your future and the end of high school but seems to last eternity. So? Have FUN with it and be yourself! Be WHO YOU ARE….in your photos! 🙂
So…what are you waiting for? Let’s book YOUR SESSION now!
A new school year is here and that means a new group of seniors nearing graduation. It is SO EXCITING!
Each school year is unique and each student is even more unique. Each circle of the calendar brings in more changes and new things to find, discover and explore. We, as individuals, all have different interests and talents. Each student’s senior year is about exploration and learning. It’s discovery time…find your self and that mysterious path to the future…ANYTHING is POSSIBLE.
Dream BIG! Find your passions…and let’s explore putting those dreams and goals into your senior pictures! Create and share your dreams and your memories with friends and family. This is a wonderful time full of life and possibilities! Embrace it.
