Williams Rt 66 Marathon – Tulsa, OK

RUN! ….. RUN!…. and RUN! But have FUN too!

I ran my first 5K in 2011. My Husband is a runner and has participated in several runs and relays over the past 12 years. This year our children have joined the family hobby and ran their first 5K’s this past July 4th.

I love marathons! If you go to the 5K fun run and walk event, you get to see alot of energy and support and FUN! People really do enjoy these. I have ran the last two for Williams Rt 66 Marathon so I haven’t any photos to share. I can say a runner’s competition really is themselves! I accomplished the goal of beating last year’s time….Now being a runner just doesn’t really fit a description I would use for myself. But I do finally have two 5K’s under my belt and next year’s time is gonna take a little more effort I think…but topping yourself is a good challenge.

Williams Rt 66 Marathon 2012
Running is Competing with Yourself! Have FUN!

I did manage to make it out to the marathon/half marathon event this year too … as a photographer. I love the energy and the enthusiasm you find at a marathon. Waiting for someone to cross a finish line takes patience.  Let me tell you, trying to meet them along the course is even more complicated!

It is worth it to see familiar faces along the way and I can see why most races map out the course for their runners! the photo opportunities are awesome too! People run in costumes, colors, and all manner of styles!

Check out the Rt66 Gallery from Sunday, November 18th, 2012.

Run…stay fit…have FUN!

Holidays…part 3

OCTOBER!!! Yes, it is finally here!

If you live in the Tulsa, OK area, then October brings the State Fair, the Haunted Castle, Oktoberfest, and many other things to do!

The Tulsa State Fair is a tradition and I can’t wait to get out and do some shooting at the fair this year. That will be new for me. I love new things and new experiences!

The Haunted Castle in Muskogee is a lot of fun too! If you have ever attended the renaissance fair there in May, then Haunted Castle is a blast! If you are looking for a costume for Halloween, Haunted Castle is a GREAT place to get some wonderful ideas! The cast is of course in costume but so are a lot of the visitors. And the costumes you will see are amazing! Something else you are very likely to see at the Castle of Muskogee’s Haunted castle is Royal Gauntlet and their Birds of Prey! Always a joy and a thrill….Eurasian Eagle Owls, Harris Hawks, and more!

Oktoberfest always brings a laugh and lots of music and fun!

Enjoy October and don’t forget to add some fun: call a photographer and spice up your fall photo session with some Halloween fun!

Bonne Terre

A visit to a lovely old mining town in Missouri.

And now you are thinking “why would you want to visit an old mining town?”.

Well, Jacques Cousteau visited and stayed for an entire week…so why not?!

There is a mine in a little town called Bonne Terre.

It is an old lead mine flooded with spring water. Caving is a lot of FUN! I love exploring…and this was exploring underwater! We had the most wonderful time and I had the chance to capture photographic evidence of it all too! People, pictures and fun times! What more could a girl ask for?!

The dive leaders and staff at West End Diving were extremely nice, patient and very helpful. We had a wonderful weekend vacation and made a lot of fun adventurous memories. Thank you to all that were there…visiting or working…Divers are a great group of people!

Tulsa, OK Photowalk

Yes, I am from Oklahoma. No, we don’t live in tents and hunt buffalo.

Tulsa is a wonderful place. Though it is not the only place I have lived, it is the place I have lived the longest. Downtown is beautiful. The City is being redone here and there and is looking wonderful. I love the architecture of downtown Tulsa. Check out some shots I took while walking downtown with friends:

Misha’s Photography and Restoration

Well, today is a great day! Adventure fun and summer!

Accomplishments make us feel great. I love my family, my friends, my work, my art….

Flowers in the Sky
roses on blue sky

Life is great! I know not everyone feels they can say that. I know that if I sat and thought about it, I could find things I am unhappy with…however….

I prefer the joys in life to the negative side of things. Positive focus helps combat the things we want to improve. this week, my focus has been on Photography…(big news right?)…

I photographed a reception for a dear friend and her family. I have another reception to shoot in august. I uploaded my website….finally! Misha’s Photography & Restoration is new and improved! Things seem to be rolling….forwards… always good to move forward.

August will be a busy month….stay tuned to hear what happens! 😀

Good-Bye Spring Flowers, Hello Summer Fun!

Today is the day of summer’s official arrival. In Oklahoma, they are expecting 100 degree days for this weekend…so I hear. Me, I don’t mind much. Give me a place to swim and I can deal….I love summer! the heat, the warm rains, the days of fun in the sun and ice cream! all my favorite things as a kid have not yet left me….Thankfully! 😀

Rt 66 IconThe Blue Whale was a swimming hole from days gone by that is now an icon along Rt 66 in Catoosa, OK.

Blue Hole is located in Salina, Oklahoma…I  have yet to visit here but I hear a lot of good things about it. That makes me curious…

so…How do you cope with summer? Do have a favorite “swimming hole”??

Tell us about it here! (in other words, leave a comment!)

Summer’s Inhabitants

Summer brings hiking into the realm of activities. I have hiked Redbud Valley Nature Center, Oxley Nature Center, and Springfield Conservation Nature Center trails.

Here are some of the things that have inhabited my summer hikes so far:

I love nature. I like to know what plants are what and the names of the flowers I see. I enjoy watching the butterflies and dragonflies flit from here to there….

I am a nature lover. I could spend all day just photographing the things I see on a hike…. or a walk… or just that appear from “nowhere”.

Nature intrigues me. I am curious and amazed at a lot of things….sometimes too easily. I still enjoy every minute of it.

I can’t always name what I see (if you can, please leave a comment)…but I love watching summer’s inhabitants.

The guys had as much fun chasing this little orange striped creature around and around the log….not sure if it was for my benefit (to photograph) or for their fun….but we all got our exercise and a photo out of it.

This black and yellow winged creature was actually in my Aunt’s flower garden alongside her driveway. I just happened to have my camera along that day and couldn’t resist snapping his photo.

I am intrigued with nature where ever I may find it…

I so dearly wish I had had a waterproof camera over the weekend. I had a swarm of blue dragonflies over the water on the Illinois River on our Father’s Day canoe trip….and I even had the amazing moment of having one land on my finger and just sit there and watch… sooo awesome! Unfortunately….no photograph to share of that one.  Maybe next time.

This little guy is one of a pair of barn swallows that have tried and tried to

make a nest over my front porch. However, that didn’t work out so well for them or their young. Three little chicks in the nest and none survived…..Can’t do that again this year… so I have washed away the beginnings of their nest each time they have tried to build it this year. They are beautiful to watch. They eat mosquitos and other insects so it is nice to have them around. I just wish there was a nice, safe place for them to nest other than my front porch (which doesn’t really workout for either of us).

Well….enjoy the summer and share your hiking finds here in the comments section!

Look forward to hearing more from you all!

Veterans of the U.S.

I know Memorial Day is past. I know that is the day of remembrance. But, that should not be the only time we remember….so today (not on a day specifically set aside) is the day I choose to do some remembering of my own.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I took a trip to our local cemetery. I have many family members there. Our troops, our soldiers, our families….deserve more than one day of remembrance. This is my tribute to them….though it is not enough! I think of them daily…but it is good to set aside a day of remembering and thankfulness for the freedoms we have….thanks to our soldiers.

God Bless The USA…….

OKRF 2012 Muskogee, Oklahoma

Carriage ride for His Majesty's Birds
visit OKRF, take a carriage ride.

What would you expect to see at a ren-faire? They call it Renaissance for a reason. I love the carriage rides. they are a great way to see all of “Castleton” in a short, uninterrupted span of time….did I say uninterrupted?

You might find the occasional band of thieves or pirates stop you….then again, your ride could be a stroll through the kingdom as peaceful as you imagined it to be.

"Cast in Bronze"
Maestro of the Carillon

You can hear the “Carillon” (pronounced care-ill-on) which is a unique sound not heard many places….

Cast in Bronze is perfect for those who love unique music, the sound of bells and other such instrumental music.

The Maestro plays in such a unique wave of movement as to entertain you while you listen…stop in at the Castle of Muskogee and hear it for yourself.

The Brother's Dim
OKRF original adult fairy tale theater like you have never seen it before

The Brothers Dimm is another (all together different and…) unique show. I have seen nothing else like them anywhere. Though I do enjoy a good laugh at every show!

Africa's Barbary Falcon
an almost endangered species

Another unique “MUST SEE” show is the Birds of Prey show at OKRF.  It’s held in the jousting arena twice a day and features a WIDE ARRAY of birds for your enjoyment. Unlike most other educational animal shows, this one features demonstrations that can involve audience participation. That’s part of what makes it great!!! Check out more at the Royal Gauntlet’s blogsite.

There are of course other sites to see throughout Castleton:

Marco, OKRF 2012
OKRF 2012, Marco

Marco…be he pirate or jester…Marco is awesome! you can even play Marco Polo without getting all wet! 🙂

The Queen–have tea with Her Majesty even!

There are Fools (and Jesters), Knights, wenches, Ladies, Faeries, Jousters, and lots of other things you may not have ever imagined! Visit Castleton and check it out for yourself. But be sure to leave a comment or a photo here!
