Warm weather is almost here and schedules are getting busier by the minute.
I want to take a moment and say Thank You to some really important people. We all have volunteers in our community. Most Home Owners’ Associations (HOAs) are made up of volunteers. Some Fire and Rescue teams are made up of volunteers. Though our Police, Fire, and Military are not volunteers, their pay is not nearly equal to the time and efforts some give on a daily basis.
I had the privilege to give back to my community this weekend and will again next weekend. I write this not to communicate my efforts but those whom I get the opportunity to photograph in their efforts. This is my way of saying “Thank You” to those who volunteer and give more than most realize. Sometimes we all take for granted those things which are right in front of us…(myself included) and sometimes a thank you can make the hours, days, months of volunteer time worth every second. 🙂
For those of you reading this, if you have time, support your local volunteers and if you are around Catoosa on Saturday, April 4th, 2015–come and enjoy the Easter Egg Hunt that Rolling Hills Fire Department is hosting from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm.
No I don’t mean High School is forever…but the one thing that seems to be forever, is that Senior Picture that sums up your High School life. This is the one portrait that is sure to be how you, as a senior in high school, are remembered. Why do I say that?
Most Seniors purchase a yearbook, a class ring, and graduation memorabilia. The ONE YEARBOOK sure to be searched through again and again and to show up at every reunion to come is the Senior Yearbook.
Why is this important? Your senior year is the beginning of your future and the end of high school but seems to last eternity. So? Have FUN with it and be yourself! Be WHO YOU ARE….in your photos! 🙂
So…what are you waiting for? Let’s book YOUR SESSION now!
A new school year is here and that means a new group of seniors nearing graduation. It is SO EXCITING!
Each school year is unique and each student is even more unique. Each circle of the calendar brings in more changes and new things to find, discover and explore. We, as individuals, all have different interests and talents. Each student’s senior year is about exploration and learning. It’s discovery time…find your self and that mysterious path to the future…ANYTHING is POSSIBLE.
Dream BIG! Find your passions…and let’s explore putting those dreams and goals into your senior pictures! Create and share your dreams and your memories with friends and family. This is a wonderful time full of life and possibilities! Embrace it.
Fall is just around the corner! this is a great time of year to have some FUN!

Underwater Photography is an as yet unrealized dream…so is becoming a mermaid myself. I have always thought the idea of swimming (or as this beauty and her team put it) “dancing with sharks” would be exhilerating and exciting….and a little terrifying. 🙂
You may ask yourself why I would (as a photographer) post this on my blog. Well… we are all people and have dreams and aspirations even in the professional world. We also have those who inspire us to achieve goals and dreams alike. Well, this wonderful diver/mermaid/ sea beauty is an inspiration for me. As such the work she is under taking and the cause is amazing and should be shared. Her photographer and dive team and behind the scenes crews have made a wonderful and inspiring presentation. I want to share that presentation and inspiration with others. I hope she accomplishes her tasks at hand and can look back and see the inspiration she has been to others on so many levels.
So far this “mermaid’s” dreams have only been accomplished
through imagination, dreams and technology also known as photoshop. Alot of little girls dream of being a mermaid… or a princess…. or even a ninja warrior. Today those dreams can actually be something real and inspiring. Imagination in people is a wonder all its own. Visit any ren-fair, comicon, or steampunk festival and see for yourself. People have amazing ways in todays times for actually marketing their causes. Blogs and websites and social media sites have given a way for people all over the world to talk, inspire, entertain, and advertise what is going on in their world. You can use it to shut out the world or embrace a much bigger world than you ever imagined! Life is an adventure! GO live it! 🙂 Enjoy your dreams. Reach for the Moon…even if you miss, you may still land among the stars…and that can be another twist in the road that carries you farther than you ever imagined!
Ladies of the sea with voices to sooth, entrance, and capture the hearts and souls of men throughout eternity…. This is what I think of when I hear the word “siren”. Siren encompasses so much more depth and feeling than “mermaids”…and I don’t think all mermaids can sing.
Most people hear the word “siren” and think song, mermaid, sea, mythology. I saw a stage act at the Renaissance Fair at the Castle of Muskogee this May. Sirena. These three lovely Ladies embody the word “Siren.”
All three are beautifully enchanting in voice, appearance, and personality. Their music….to die for! It is captivating, hauntingly beautiful, and full of soulful passion. It sounds tribal with the drums (played by the Sirens as they sing AND dance!). It makes me long for the ocean waves crashing against the rocks…I would say crashing against the hull of a huge pirate ship…but I must confess that I do not know what that actually sounds like outside of the movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean.” However it does pick me up and carry me away to another time and place where mythology lives along with goddesses of the song and sea known as sirens… loved and feared by seafaring men worldwide and throughout time.
If you are fully curious and would like to know more about these Ladies of the Deep our modern day sirens: “Sirena”… please allow me to point you in a few different but well traveled paths of knowledge.
Sirena was on the cover of a renaissance magazine during the month of May in 2014-seen on a news stand coming out of Reasor’s….yet I have been unable to find the cover or the magazine since.
Theses ladies have Festival awards for “Best Music group” and “Best new cd”….They will enchant you. Aglaope (Amanda Ellis), Legeia (Tegan Elliott) and Raidne (Sam Nolte) are Sirena – sirens to love and enjoy while they sing to your very soul, should you dare to listen!
A couple of the influences on their music and style are Enya and Stomp… new age and celtic… with a touch of soul.
The Castle of Muskogee was alive with the invigorating music of the Sirens…. “Sirena” during the two weekends they were performing at the Castle on the Harbor stage. These beautiful and enchanting young women have voices that make their music come alive and are down to earth as well. It was wonderful to get the chance to see them at the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival.
And what music group as enchanting as this trio would not be found on youtube.com?
Muskogee’s Castle and Renaissance Festival was said to be a warm welcome to these beautiful Ladies. I know many people (both cast, vendors, and other stage acts as well as patrons at the fair) are hoping they revisit the Castle of Muskogee in May 2015. Look them up and discover some beautifully, soulful music….and the beauties behind it as well.
Best Wishes Sirena!
The music is hauntingly and beautifully uplifting with a tribal feel. You truly have to experience it for yourself.
I know you probably read the title of this blog and thought you were going to see a bunch of kids’ portraits for Easter, right? I hope you aren’t disappointed. I wanted to do something a little more original this year. I want to display a portrait of Easter.
Are you wondering what I mean by that? How would you paint (or create) a portrait of Easter? East conjures so many memories and so many meanings….each is different for ever individual person that reads this.
When I think of Easter, I think of the childhood memories with my familly…the new outfit my grandmother had made for me, the Easter basket with candy and toys, the church service that would be taking place that Sunday…and the dinner and egg hunt that would happen after church.
I also think of the symbolism (for me) and this may of course be different for you….we each have our own thoughts, images, and memories that make up what we believe and how we perceive things.
If I was to create a “Portrait of Easter”, I would start with a glorious sunrise filled with birdsongs on a cool but not chilled foggy morning…..though this isn’t a foggy morning…it is a golden sun:
I had a wonderful experience this weekend. I got to fly in a small Piper airplane. Now I am horrible at remember types of planes and automobiles alike…but I am working on getting better at identification. Reading–I have LOTS of new reading materials–will help.
I can say that the couple I met in trying to find a family pet are a really cool dynamic duo.
They both fly, teach, and love animals.
She used to race airplanes and he loves aerial acrobatics. Flight instructors. Animal Lovers. People who give back to their community in so many ways and they are as down-to-earth as you please. My weekend has been very interesting and exciting!
We started off in Collinsville and flew into Pogue Airport in Sand Springs. Then flew a little further west and I got a glimpse of the Keystone Lake and Dam from the air. I have traveled across the Keystone Dam my entire life and now I have seen a new perspective at a very interesting time…as the Dam is under repairs…or at least the road across the Dam is under re-construction. Everything is different from the air. It is amazing, beautiful, and I was directionally challenged I will admit. 😀
It is easy to pick out huge land marks from the air, like the Dam…but roads and rivers and water ways have no street signs for the passengers of an airplane. It is amazing though and I enjoyed every minute of it!
While experiencing my first aerial photography trip, I actually got to fly higher than an eagle…we did fly right over one. 🙂 It was amazing to see things from that perspective!
Aerial photography is a new chapter for my photography experiences and I am so looking forward to seeing how this new area fits into my journey of photography….and how new friendships will grow.
“Thank You!” to ALL who made this wonderful experience possible.

Pictured above was the last adventure for 2013. My Family and I took a Midwestern Ski Trip to Weston, MO. Yes, you did read that correctly. I said “midwestern ski trip” to Missouri. 🙂
Snow Creek Resort is a wonderful little place located in Weston, MO that is perfect for a weekend ski trip for a family of any size. It isn’t a resort in the sense of week long visits to a lodge on a mountain side. But it is a great little mini vacation location when you don’t have time to spend a week at a Mountain side resort in Colorado or Arizona or further away.
Twenty-Thirteen was a good year. It had many good points and is now part of the past. With that change in numbers from 2013 to 2014 comes a new beginning. With that new beginning also comes room for new adventures. That is the part I look forward to. Adventures are what life’s journey is made of…we each have our own to experience and hopefully share. Some adventures are great successes and others we’d rather had not happened. They each make up who we become and help us discover what we want and where we want to be or where we want to go in the future.
May “twenty-fourteen” offer you many new adventures of the successful variety and may many more dreams come true!
