WE SURVIVED!…Was there truly, ever, any doubt?? How did you celebrate? The year 2012 has been interesting. I have friends that plan on watching “2012” to “celebrate” that the earth is still turning and 2012 was not the end of the world….Personally, I went out to dinner at one of my favorite Pubs with my best and dearest friend and had a cider….it’s always nice to add another memory with someone special….
“The things we have survived….”
That phrase means so many different things to many different people. In the year 2012, what does it mean for you?
The old year is fading and the new year is arriving! Usually that is a celebration that lasts all night. Some believe the way you ring in the new year and spend that first day is a foreshadowing of the year to come and how it will play out. However and whenever you choose to celebrate… have fun, stay safe, and keep your friends close as you make those memories for sharing later. 😀
Oh, and FOOTBALL!…I like the parades too. However you celebrate this particular holiday, I hope it brings you lots of joy, family, and friends.
I will be taking home photos of my daughter in the kitchen. I’m sure if there is a game on, it will be viewed in our house as well….maybe even a game of catch out in the front yard… Memories are fun to make. I am looking forward to time with my family…and I will miss the family members that are celebrating in other places.
I have to admit, I wasn’t until today….but some of what I want to shop for is from the Halloween era but spills over into Christmas ..which I can’t specify at the moment cause it will give away the gift I shopped for today…if I haven’t done so already. 😛
Now is the best time to still get it done early! You see, Christmas stuff is out and the stores are still trying to make room for all the merchandise that will be coming in for black friday….and the malls are NOT crowded YET! Photos also make a wonderful gift. If you have some fun photos and would like a collage made for that unique gift…we can do THAT! What ever you have to shop for and whom ever it is for….Have a wonderful holiday (Christmas! or whatever you happen to celebrate this time of year!)
I know you are probably tired of hearing me say that but it is so true. It is the time for fun and lots of events are taking place. Check out Haunted Castle at the Castle of Muskogee. I love costumes and photos and people! This is the perfect time and place for both!
I know Memorial Day is past. I know that is the day of remembrance. But, that should not be the only time we remember….so today (not on a day specifically set aside) is the day I choose to do some remembering of my own.
I took a trip to our local cemetery. I have many family members there. Our troops, our soldiers, our families….deserve more than one day of remembrance. This is my tribute to them….though it is not enough! I think of them daily…but it is good to set aside a day of remembering and thankfulness for the freedoms we have….thanks to our soldiers.
The end of May 2012 is fast approaching. I don’t know about you, but I am still wondering what happened to the beginning of this year. It is just about half over. Fortunately, the weather is good and the sunshine is welcome! 😀
Summer vacation is coming if yours hasn’t already started and people are looking for those water sports and swimming holes to open. After all, Memorial Day is the weekend it all begins!
Memorial Day is also a day of remembrance for many. This is the weekend we take flowers to decorate the resting places of those who have gone before us. Memories are a wonderful comfort. They are also a way to share those you love with those you love who never had the chance to know them.
I hope Memorial Day is a wonderful time for you filled with happy memories that you get to share with many friends and family members. Let me what fills your Memorial Day of May 2012. Leave a comment here to share.
You have no idea how many times I hear these same questions over and over again! If you have ever taken a spanish class, you already know the answers! Cinco means five. Mayo means May. So when is cinco de mayo? The fifth of May.
Now “what is cinco de mayo?” is a better question. Some people say it’s just another reason to have a party. Okay, commercialism has intervened in America once again (not necessarily a bad thing…just a statement) and it is a very commercialized day for sales and parties. I have been told it is a bigger celebration here than in Mexico. I have always been told it is the celebration of Mexico’s independence day. well, if you look it up, here is what you might find:
“The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.
In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.
Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16.” (wikipedia—of course)
So if you NEED a reason to celebrate, then here you are….cinco de mayo! If you don’t…Party away–in your own way of course…
This year I have a few friends who are graduating ON cinco de mayo! So I have plenty to celebrate this year! Check back….hopefully I have some wonderful party pics to share with you!
However you spend Cinco de Mayo, share it here! (leave a comment!)
or send me an email of your favorite photo (one that you don’t mind being posted on my blog!)……
The weather changes from day to day if not minute to minute. while this can be challenging to an outdoor photographer, it is awesome! I love a challenge! This week, I had a wonderful opportunity to shoot some nature shots…just sort of looking around.
I love nature. Flowers offer a wide variety of photographic opportunities. This particular shot reminds me of a favorite childhood faery tale. Can you tell me which one I might be thinking of??
Take a guess! (leave it in the comment section)…..
Nature offers many things that people sometimes get too busy to see. I like to remind myself of the small ever-present things I tend to take for granted.
This was comical! This little red squirrel looked over at me as if to say “What? You have never seen a squirrel before?”
Nature has an expression! Several I am sure…probably more than I can experience and share. But I will give it a shot!
In poetry books, I use to see illustrations of picnics by a pond or some such similar scene.
This shot reminds me of those poetry books, picnics in summer, and calming moments that are rarely seen any more due to the hustle and bustle of our busy life in today’s technology driven world.
What does it remind you of?
Do you have a special place? A spot that makes time stand still? this lovely little vision could be one such place to someone….
Waterfalls represent so many things…
the flow of time, the streams of life and it’s journey, the calming sound of rushing water that let the spirit revive itself and breathe…
Waterfalls are a favorite of mine. Don’t forget to share yours! send me a photo or leave a comment.
Nature is a wonderful teacher…life is an amazing journey! Please, share them through photos.
If you would like a portrait done in your favorite nature setting…shoot me an email or give me a call!
Photography is a wonderful way to share life with those who aren’t as close as you would like them.
I posted a blog for Easter. Someone else posted a link to their blog post regarding Easter. I found it a very interesting read. If you travel, especially during the holidays, share your posts. Share your experiences. I don’t travel much as of yet. I hope for that to change…but for the moment most of my travels are inside the U.S. borders. I would love to hear how your holidays differ from mine. As a photographer, I am also interested in holiday photos. Here we do portraits of everything, everyone, every holiday, and a lot of events. Pictures help people share their lives and their stories with those who didn’t have the chance or ability to share them in person.
This was an annual Easter Egg Hunt taken on Easter Sunday 2012.
Post your holidays….post a picture of your celebrations….share a comment!
